“樓亭苑 (nujeongwon) is an exterior space, organized visually and conceptually as a whole, centered around nujeong building.” Prof. Sung-Kyun Kim started with this new definition for the Korean landscape, because he cannot explain it (Korean garden) in terms of the Western concept of a garden, such as “the artificial and fenced area decorated for aesthetic and practical purposes.”
